FALLBROOK – In June, the Fallbrook 4H Horse project traveled to Del Mar for the annual Del Mar Junior Amateur Classic 4H/FFA/Grange Horse Show. Having prepared for this event for the past eight months or more, the group entered with confidence and with realistic goals and did not intend to disappoint.
They actually exceeded the expectations of their first year leader, Robin Dixon, to her extreme delight. "We just went to have fun and try our best," Dixon said. Ecstatic with the performance of her group, she said that not only did they exhibit exceptional horsemanship, but sportsmanship as well.
It takes an extraordinary amount of work to prepare for a horse show. Not only does it take months for the riders to develop themselves and their horses physically and mentally, they also have to present their horses and themselves in a neat and proper fashion, from the tack and clothing down to clipping and bathing, trimming, braiding and banding manes and tails, plus many more tiny details that could make or break their chances at winning. But, beyond this amount of toil, it’s all aimed at having the most fun possible.
The team of Aeli McClellan with Annabelle (Annie), Lauren Gilbert with BZD Silvr Shado Dancr (Danny) and Pandore, Nick Foraker with Daddy’s Makin’ Music (Melody) and Michael Bresnahan with Beau collectively accrued 13 first place ribbons and 10 second place ribbons along with various other placements.
The group is already preparing for the excitement of next year’s fair. For information regarding 4H membership or riding lessons, contact Robin Dixon at (951) 231-5605 or [email protected].
